Youth Dev BB - Time shifted

To avoid schedule overlapping issues with the WCMS teams that have a practice running right to 5:30, we are shifting our schedule.

Please arrive no earlier than 5:40pm, and practice will begin at 5:45 pm, and conclude at 6:45 pm

This a time cushion between practices, but also as the weather gets colder we don't want folks to have to wait outdoors in the cold ... kids/parents can come inside as they arrive.

St. John's Athletics joins Shenandoah Christian Conference

Hello SJA Families:

St. John's Athletics has joined a new athletic conference as a founding member, the Shenandoah Christian Conference (SCC).

Following are some notes about the SCC.

- The conference has been founded as explicitly Christian in nature. The constitution is expressly intent on not allowing the gender confusion movement to gain any hold in its athletic programs.

- The geographic center of the conference is the northern Shenandoah Valley; most members are likely to be within 45 minutes of Front Royal.

-Many of St. John's historically regularly scheduled opponents are anticipated to eventually join.

- Joining the conference provides a core of conference opponents, with the opportunity to generate season schedules in a single day with other conference members.

- St. Johns will still be able to schedule non-conference games, but would be obligated to schedule conference games and treat them as priorities over non-conference games.

- Joining the conference would subject St. John's to the rules and limitations of the conference. These principally concern eligibility of players. St. John's Athletics will have less discretion about accepting players that are NOT members of St. John's. such decisions would have to be submitted to conference members for approval.

The founding members of the SCC are:

- Chelsea Academy

- John Paul the Great II Montessori Academy

- Legacy Academy

- Providence Christian Academy

- Saint John's Athletics

Soccer Supporters Needed

The soccer program at St. John's is very much in need of some volunteers to continue being able to field teams for our community. We have fielded MS and HS girls (Spring) and boys (Fall) for the past 4-5 years.

The people that have been doing this for the last several years have kids that are aging out of the program, and therefore replacements are needed. I do not personally have the time to take on this role, and also to not have kids that play soccer.

I am beginning to receive game scheduling inquiries about the Spring girls soccer season now. If you have children that you would like to have the opportunity to play soccer for St. John's, and have the time and talent to volunteer, PLEASE step forward. We will provide you with the contacts and support to learn "on the job", as everyone has to do.

I need a lead coordinator ASAP for St. John's Soccer to begin game scheduling for Spring.  Coaches are need as always, but the time frame for getting coaches is not as urgent. There is one vacant Board of Directors seat, and I would very much like to see a new volunteer join the board as the soccer coordinator.

I won't be scheduling games for the Spring girls season if we don't have the needed volunteer(s).

SJA Converts to All On-Line payments

Effective Fall 2019 with basketball registrations, the SJA BoD voted to require all payments on-line with a debit or credit card. This change will save SJA volunteers from unnecessary time spent collecting and transferring paper checks to the Treasurer for deposit, as well saving the time spent tracking and following up with reminders when commitments to pay by check aren’t met in a timely manner.

Basketball season is nearly upon us

Believe it or not, basketball season is just around the corner.  Gyms are rented beginning in October, and we have volunteers for head coaches for all teams. The SJA Board will designate coaches and assistants before the end of the month. See the SJA web site if you're interested in filling out an application to coach.

Please spread the word to those who may be new to the parish or otherwise not aware of our programs.
